Who?
My name is Les Brunson, owner and inspector at Amarillo Precision Home Inspection.
I received an education in HVACR (Heating, Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) at Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, AZ early in my life. I went on to work for the oldest and one of the largest mechanical repair contractors in the Texas Panhandle. I found my work there doing HVACR, commercial kitchen equipment repair, plumbing etc. to be rewarding and fulfilling on a personal level, providing needed services, but as the newest technician not as financially rewarding as I felt I needed.
After approximately three years with this firm, I moved away from the service industry to a position with a large corporation at a local manufacturing plant. This proved to be more financially rewarding but much less fulfilling on a personal level. I stayed with this employment for twenty six years, making a living, but not truly enjoying how I made that living.
After twenty-six years of dedication to my employer, and working in just about every area of manufacturing, there was not much room left for advancement without a degree. I moved to a new position with a major Class 1 railroad locally. Much more financially rewarding, and at first very rewarding on a personal level. After ten years as a conductor and engineer there, due to multiple changes in management philosophy which took away all personal fulfillment that came from this employment, it was time for a change again.
I knew I had really enjoyed the feeling that came from my years spent in the HVACR field. It felt good to provide a service that people needed, and do a good job for them, knowing that I had made their life better, easier, more comfortable.
My wife is a very successful REALTOR®, and loves helping her clients find the home of their dreams. In a few short years she has proven to be one of the best in her industry. What could I do in the real estate industry that would be as rewarding and fulfilling on a personal level? Home inspections seemed like a logical choice!
Home Inspectors provide a valuable and needed service to their clients. Whether it is finding and allowing my client to have issues repaired before their purchase or using the knowledge gained from a home inspection to improve their bargaining position on the home they wish to purchase.
From my training in HVACR, I had a background in air conditioning installation and service, plumbing, electrical, and control systems. I felt this was a strong background from which to build on to become a home inspector. I began my journey by becoming a member of InterNACHI, the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors. I took several education courses through them to learn whether my background in HVACR would benefit me in learning and providing a quality home inspection. Once I decided that this was a service that I could in fact provide with the right training and qualifications, I moved ahead with a plan.
I signed up for my education with AHIT, American Home Inspectors Training.
TREC (Texas Real Estate Commission) licenses inspectors to ensure that the home inspection industry in Texas is done in a consistent and ethical manner. AHIT provided the education needed to become licensed through TREC. After completing my education (online and in person education, classroom hours, and practicum which is performing inspections with a Licensed Professional Home Inspector who is also an instructor), inspectors are required to pass two exams, one a State exam created by and administered by the Texas Real Estate Inspector Committee a division of TREC, and the other, a national exam administered by EBPHI the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors. After becoming licensed, inspectors are required to continue their education with CE classes in Legal & Ethics, and Standards of Practice review, as well as other continuing education topics related to the Home Inspection Industry.
After completing my education, I continue to go above the requirements for continuing education required by TREC in order to gain more knowledge and become a better inspector for you my clients.
I am a new inspector, I am a new company in the inspection industry....
